the story of a rubber slipper

this is a story of a young boy and his favorite pair of slippers. this slipper is made of cheap rubber, but it fits the boy's feet. it gives him comfort, it gives him a sense of completeness, a sense of "home". when he gets home from school, he goes to find his pair of rubber slipper right away which he had tucked carefully away on the shoe rack. the rubber slipper had been broken so many times before, the strap had unsnapped more than a couple times, and everytime this happens the boy would trip over, fall on his knees and blame himself for his carelessness. well, you see, most of us, blame other things and other people for our downfall, but this boy is different. he glued the broken strap of his rubber slipper everytime it gave way, patiently he did this over and over again. (he did this because he wanted to keep his rubber slipper, not wanting to throw it away) until one occassion the boy received a gift. a new pair of leather sandals, a real catch it is! it gives him comfort and protection more than the rubber slipper could ever offer him, it's design is just awesome! and yet, the boy still feels that he prefers his old worn out rubber slipper.

one day, the rubber slipper once again snapped and the boy fell and bruised himself. the rubber slipper felt sorry for her friend. she looked at the boy's legs and saw how many bruises she had caused him to incur. she cried. you see, she also loves the boy, very much so, but she knew that staying with the boy would only hurt him and she could not bear to watch that happen knowing that she is the cause of all his pains. so one night, while the boy was sleeping, she walked away. she walked away because she knew that the new leather sandals could take care of his feet more than she could, could make him feel at home like the way she did (may be even better). she walked away because she doesn't want to deprive him of that beautiful experience of being with someone (or something) that could make him happy and more content. she chose to walk away because it is the last and best gift (and selfless thing) she could ever give him to repay him for all his kindness and his love. she left because she loves him so much...

i'm just wondering if the boy would ever forgive the slipper for leaving him. may be he felt like a soldier fighting a fated battle alone, but he never lost hope that one day everything's gonna turn out to be fine just as long they were together. may be the boy felt betrayed because he was willing to endure all hardships with her, but she snapped and gave up. he had faith. he had love. all they needed was each other. he believed. that is all that is needed. no more reasons... it is LOVE.
